Transforming our bedroom to help aid Shane.
Transforming our bedroom to help aid Shane.
As many of you know, I am a chromotherapist with a passion for
food, interior decor, and promoting overall well-being through the use of
color. Today, I want to share a personal idea with you. My husband, Shane, was
recently diagnosed with diabetes. This life-changing news has prompted us to
reevaluate our lifestyle and make necessary changes to support his health.
One of the significant changes we’ve decided to make is a
complete overhaul of our home, starting with the bedroom. Who knows, just maybe
you can pick up on an idea or two that you can use yourself. I have kept in
mind that most of you are not permitted to paint the walls, so, I believe that
we can still create a healing environment through the careful selection of
lighting and accessories.
Creating
a therapeutic bedroom environment to aid in diabetes recovery involves
optimizing lighting to set the right mood.
Layering
Greens.
A soft green
light above our headboard (ideally an emerald or seafoam green) promotes
relaxation and sleep, crucial for regulating blood sugar.
If you guys don’t
have a headboard or don’t want to place a light above your headboard, then consider
adding a floor lamp that casts a wider, calming green glow throughout the room.
Balancing
with Blues.
Try to
incorporate calm blue elements into your bedroom decor. This can be achieved by
adding blue candles, a beautiful blue bedcover, or various shades of blue
scatter cushions. Research indicates that blue may have an impact on insulin
production. If you prefer not to use a green light, go for blue lampshades or
subtle blue artwork instead. Just keep in mind to avoid using overly bright or
saturated blues, as they may not have the desired calming effect.
Accents
for Energy.
For a natural
energy boost in the morning and during the day, introduce sunshine yellow near
your window – think curtains, throw pillows, or a small rug with vibrant pops
of color. Yellow perfectly matches with blue and green.
Dimmers
are Key.
Install dimmers
on all your lights. This allows you to adjust the light intensity. In the
evening, gradually lower the light levels to promote relaxation and healthy
sleep patterns.
Here
are some additional warning tips.
Avoid
harsh overhead lights:
Always go for softer, indirect lighting sources.
Minimize
red and orange:
While these colors can be stimulating, they might not be ideal for a diabetic
bedroom environment.
Embrace
natural light:
Avoid a dark room during the day - maximize natural sunlight exposure in your
bedroom.
My ideas...
When it comes to accessories, I will be focusing on items that
can introduce color into the room.
Bedding: I’ve chosen bedding
in blue hues. Blue is known to have a calming effect and can help
to reduce blood pressure and heart rate, promoting a good night’s sleep.
Curtains: I am considering green
curtains for our windows. Green is associated with harmony and
balance, and it can help to create a calming atmosphere.
Artwork and Decor: I plan to use yellow
artwork and a rug to uplift the mood.
Plants: I’m going to add some
indoor plants to our bedroom. Not only do they purify the air, but they also
introduce a soothing green color into the space.
Through these changes, I hope to create a bedroom environment
that supports Shane’s health and well-being. Remember, color is not just a
visual element; it has the power to influence our emotions and health. So,
let’s use and embrace it!
